Nghe An: Extreme heat, salt farmers actively enter the season
(Baonghean.vn) - Taking advantage of the extremely hot days, salt farmers in Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) are focusing on going to the fields to produce salt. People are more excited when the price of salt at the beginning of the season is higher than last year.

The hot weather is a good condition for salt farmers in An Hoa, Quynh Thuan, Quynh Tho communes... to start the salt production season. In the salt fields in An Hoa commune, people are busy with each step to harvest batches of salt that have been cured in the sun.
Ms. Ho Thi Minh in Thang Loi village, An Hoa commune said: It is about a month until the main season, but taking advantage of the sunny weather at the beginning of the season, her family has focused on producing more than 100 kg of salt per day.
The current price of salt is 1,400 VND/kg (200 VND/kg higher than last year) which has encouraged people to produce. During the main season, each household produces an average of 1.5 - 2 quintals, earning an income of 200,000 - 280,000 VND/day.

An Hoa commune has about 140 hectares of salt production area, this is a traditional profession that helps people increase their income. To increase productivity and output, the locality has built a model of salt spreading on a 15-hectare area. After many years of applying this method, productivity has increased by 10% per unit area, and the price has increased by 2-3 times compared to salt made in the traditional way. The locality will continue to encourage people to invest in making salt spreading on tarpaulin to increase productivity and value.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung in Quynh Thuan commune shared that salt makers often say “work for a day, eat for a year”, meaning if you make salt to serve your family, you will not be able to eat it all in a year; so they mainly sell it. This saying has become a “specialty” of people in coastal areas.

Quynh Luu is a large salt "granary" of the province with an area of 600 hectares, with an output of about 50,000 - 55,000 tons per year. Since the beginning of the season, salt farmers have been actively producing, so the salt output has reached about 4,000 tons. From May to August, because this is the main season, with a lot of sunshine, the salt output will reach about 10,000 tons/month.

To consume the products, in Quynh Luu district, there are currently dozens of traders purchasing salt reserves, including 4 factories purchasing thousands of tons to process salt for export to the US, Japan, South Korea and Laos. According to the district's plan, in 2019, salt output will reach over 55,000 tons./.
