(Baonghean.vn) - There are some warning lights on your car's dashboard that you can temporarily ignore and continue driving, but you absolutely cannot ignore the warning lights below, because just a few minutes of delay can cost you dearly.

1. Engine overheat warning light

- Why is this light on?A thermometer-shaped light immersed in water comes on, indicating that the vehicle's engine is overheating, the coolant is too hot. The cause could be a lack of coolant, air in the coolant system, or a faulty water pump.

- What should you do when you see this light?Quickly move the car to a safe place, let the engine idle; switch the air conditioner to maximum heat and the strongest fan, open the hood to observe if the coolant is depleted. If the coolant is low, turn off the engine immediately; if there is still water but it is boiling, let the engine idle to circulate the water for a few minutes and then turn off the engine. After that, you can add more water to continue the journey but must monitor continuously... It is best to take the car to the garage for timely treatment.

-What happens if ignored?Continuing to drive while the engine is overheating can cause engine parts to fail quickly; the cylinder head to overheat and warp; the sealing gaskets to be completely destroyed; the overheated piping system to be damaged as well... The cost of recovery is very expensive and the engine still cannot operate normally again when many parts have been deformed.

2. Engine lubricating oil pressure warning light

- Why is this light on?This light will appear when the ignition key is turned on, and will disappear when the engine is started, which is normal. But when the sensor system detects that the lubricating oil pressure is below the safe threshold, this light will turn on. The cause of lack of oil pressure can be due to oil leakage and lack, oil loss, broken oil pump...

- What should you do when you see it?Quickly stop the car in a safe place and turn off the engine, and check the engine oil level for any drops. If there is a drop, add more lubricating oil. If there is no drop, the problem may be the oil pump and it needs to be repaired at a reputable garage.

- What happened?if ignored? If the oil pressure is insufficient, the high precision mechanical parts inside the engine will not be lubricated and will wear out quickly. High pressure mechanisms such as pistons, cylinders, crankshafts, etc. will be severely affected first; even broken due to the parts scratching each other. The car engine can turn into scrap metal in a moment.

3. Brake system warning light

- Why is this light on?There are many reasons why the brake system warning light comes on. It could be due to worn brake pads, low brake fluid pressure or a burnt out brake light.

- What should you do when you see this light? When this light comes on, in many cases you may have lost your brakes. Turn on your hazard lights and pull over to a safe location. Do not continue driving if your brake fluid is low.

If the brake fluid is still sufficient, the cause may be a faulty ABS sensor, a broken brake light wiring system, or the brake pads are worn to the point of needing replacement. In this case, you can still continue your journey, but you need to be extremely vigilant and urgently take the car to a garage for handling.
