When should you change your car engine air filter?
Although the operation of changing the engine air filter is not too complicated, we advise you to take your car to a reputable garage to have the condition of the car accurately checked.
According to auto experts, each car manufacturer has an instruction manual attached to each car model, which includes notes on maintenance conditions and replacement of parts. Car owners will rely on this manual to estimate the appropriate maintenance and replacement time.
Normally, for new cars, the car engine air filter needs to be cleaned every 5,000 km and replaced every 20,000 km. However, in the case of a used car, the time to replace the air filter may be earlier and depending on the operating conditions of the car, it can be cleaned every 3,000 km or once a month, and replaced every 15,000 km.

In addition, you also need to pay attention to the condition of the vehicle. If there are any signs such as the vehicle consuming a lot of gas, the engine often suddenly turns off, heats up quickly and the air conditioner is not cool enough, you should immediately check the engine air filter and clean or replace it (if necessary).

If you want to do it yourself at home, please follow these steps:
- Open the hood and wait for the engine to cool completely.
- Determine the exact location of the air filter housing.
- Open the container with the appropriate tool, take the air filter out of the container.
- Clean the air filter by tapping it lightly on the floor to remove dust and dirt. Then use a vacuum cleaner or air blower to clean each layer of dust and dirt.
- Never immerse the air filter in water as it will damage the air filter.
- In case the air filter is too dirty to clean, replace it with a new one, making sure to install it in the correct direction into the housing.
- Final check by starting the engine, applying high throttle and using your hand to check the air intake to see if there is air being drawn in, in case of blockage.
