The death anniversary is an occasion to remember and pay tribute to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh - a resilient, patriotic woman who was affectionately known as the Bach Lien Lady by the people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh was born in the year of the Monkey (1884) in Hoang Tru village (President Ho Chi Minh's maternal hometown). Since her childhood, she has absorbed the tradition of patriotism and love for people from both her paternal and maternal families.

When she grew up, she had a close relationship with the patriot Phan Boi Chau, working with Doi Quyen and Doi Phan as a liaison, raising money for the insurgents and the Dong Du movement.

At the end of 1910, while on a liaison mission, she was captured by the enemy. She promptly destroyed the documents. Although she was brutally beaten and subjected to all kinds of torture, she did not reveal anything that would harm the insurgents. Without concrete evidence, they had to release her.

After being released from prison, she continued her activities, opening a cheap restaurant near Vinh Citadel to approach the blue-clad soldiers' post to grasp the enemy situation. She and her comrades organized to get enemy guns to equip the insurgents, but unfortunately the incident was exposed, she was arrested and sentenced to 9 years of hard labor, exiled 300 miles from her homeland...

On September 18, 1940, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh was released and returned to her hometown.

Due to old age, weakness and serious illness, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh passed away in March 1954. Her life is a shining example of Vietnamese women in terms of morality, noble qualities and deep patriotism.
