(Baonghean.vn) - In the face of widespread severe heat, while many areas of dense pine forest cover have not been treated, the risk of forest fires can occur at any time.

In Dien Doai commune, Dien Chau district, there are over 170 hectares of pine forest, most of which have not been treated. Observation in the pine forest area of Hamlet 16, Dien Doai commune shows that the dense undergrowth under the pine canopy is taller than a person; meanwhile, the pine forest area is adjacent to National Highway 48, where people can easily pass through. Therefore, the risk of forest fires is very high during the hot season.

Local people said that because the vegetation has not been treated for a long time, forest fires occurred in this area in 2016 and 2017.

It is known that the above pine forest area is managed by the commune and assigned to another unit to exploit pine resin.

Mr. Pham Khac Bien - Chairman of Dien Doai Commune People's Committee said: The above pine forest area has been assigned to the commune for management since 1978. The commune has assigned a unit to exploit pine resin and this unit is responsible for processing the ground cover. Due to the low price of pine resin in recent years, many pine areas have low productivity, so the resin exploitation unit has not focused on processing the ground cover.

Dien Chau district has nearly 6,000 hectares of pine forest but there is no forest owner such as forestry companies or protective forest management board to manage it. Most of the forest area is assigned to the commune and community for management, so there are many difficulties in forest fire prevention and fighting. Most of the pine forest cover has not been treated due to lack of funds.

Similarly, Yen Thanh district has nearly 2,000 hectares of pine forest, but only over 500 hectares managed by Yen Thanh Protective Forest Management Board have been treated for vegetation, the remaining over 1,500 hectares assigned to communes, communities and contracted households have not been treated.

Many other districts are also in the same situation, such as Nam Dan district, which has only processed 1,200/6,000 hectares, Do Luong 1,000/6,500 hectares...

The whole province annually clears vegetation under the canopy of only 5,000 hectares of pine forests out of a total of 16,000 hectares, reaching a rate of 31%.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Head of Forest Management and Protection Department, Provincial Forest Protection Department

To minimize the risk of pine forest fires, the current solution is that in addition to State funding support, it is necessary to carry out propaganda work, "socialize" forest fire prevention and fighting, and mobilize organizations to join hands in dealing with the undergrowth. In addition, mobilize people in communes with pine forests to allocate a portion of the revenue from pine resin exploitation to deal with the undergrowth.

Nghe An: Lurking risk of forest fires

(Baonghean.vn) - In 2018, Nghe An had 21 fires, causing damage to 80.33 hectares of forest. It is worth mentioning that many fires were caused by burning vegetation that spread the fire or by people carelessly setting fire to the forest. Forest fire prevention work before the hot season of 2019 still has many shortcomings, the risk of forest fires is always present.
