(Baonghean.vn) - It is expected that Nghe An's 2019 spring rice yield will average 68 quintals/ha, an increase of about 1 quintal/ha compared to the previous spring crop.

The April 30-May 1 holiday is also the time when farmers enter the harvest season in joy of a good harvest. The heavy rain on the afternoon of April 30 did not affect farmers' plans to harvest spring rice.

In Yen Thanh district, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh in Hamlet 10, Xuan Thanh commune said that this spring, her family planted 7 sao of rice, with a yield of about 3.5 quintals/sao. Thanks to the combine harvester, her family was able to finish the harvest in one session. Immediately after that, she rented a machine to prepare for the summer-autumn planting.

According to the district's Department of Agriculture, this spring rice crop yield in the district reached 72 quintals/ha, equivalent to last year. The localities with high yield were Khanh Thanh, Nhan Thanh, Bac Thanh, and Lien Thanh.

In the spring crop of 2019, Do Luong district planted more than 8,400 hectares of rice, mainly high-quality rice varieties and hybrid rice. Due to planting on schedule and relatively favorable weather, Do Luong district's summer-autumn rice grew well.

Taking advantage of favorable weather, farmers in Thuong Son, Hien Son, Hoa Son and Yen Son communes urgently harvested ripe rice. It is estimated that this year's spring rice crop in Do Luong has an average yield of over 3 quintals/sao, equivalent to 60 quintals/ha.

In Thanh Chuong district, thanks to the introduction of new rice varieties, favorable weather and good investment in intensive farming, the estimated yield is about 7 tons/ha.

Currently, the district has about 40 combine harvesters, dozens of cage harvesters and thousands of semi-manual machines, so the rice harvest progress has been accelerated. It is expected that by May 15, Thanh Chuong will have completed harvesting 8,200 hectares of spring rice.

Along with the spring rice harvest, people in Thanh Chuong district are actively preparing for the summer-autumn crop of about 12,000 hectares, including about 5,500 hectares of rice.

Due to the hot weather, farmers in many localities have had to change their working hours, drying rice and straw during the day and hiring machines to harvest rice at night.

According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, in the 2019 spring crop, the whole province planted 90,000 hectares of rice. By April 24, some localities had harvested rice in favorable weather conditions. The average yield was estimated at 68 quintals/ha, an increase of about 1 quintal/ha compared to the previous spring crop.

Localities with high productivity: Yen Thanh, Thanh Chuong, Quynh Luu, Dien Chau, Do Luong...

As the harvest progresses, farmers will prepare the land for summer-autumn crop production. From April 25 onwards, based on each field, localities will direct farmers to sow rice seedlings for summer-autumn crop planting as soon as possible. In the summer-autumn crop, farmers should invest in additional lime powder, fertilizing with 20-25 kg/sao.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc - Head of Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection

On the afternoon of April 30, a tornado-like storm occurred in several localities in the province, causing many areas of spring rice in Thanh Chuong, Tan Ky, Yen Thanh, Do Luong... to collapse. However, according to local agricultural officials, because most of the spring rice was in the ripening stage, the yield was not affected, so farmers continued to go to the fields to harvest rice.
