The universe is expanding faster than expected
To come to this conclusion, scientists used new measurements from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and found that the universe is expanding about 9% faster than expected.
The findings back up previous Hubble measurements published in 2016. This means the chance of an asteroid colliding with Earth has been reduced from 1 in 3,000 to just 1 in 100,000.

Astronomers have just discovered that the universe is continuing to expand. |
Astronomers admit that additional physical concepts are necessary to better understand the universe.
"This is not what we expected", said Adam Riess, Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University.
In the study, Riess and his team used a new method to analyze the light from 70 stars in our neighboring galaxy. Using the new method, the researchers were able to observe and see changes in the universe.
In addition, with this new data, Riess and his team were able to strengthen the conceptual foundation"cosmic distance ladder", used to determine distances in space.
The team also combined measurements from their Hubble telescope with another set of observations, made by the Araucaria Project, a collaboration between astronomers from Chile, the US and Europe.
