Artist Le Binh passed away after nearly a year of cancer treatment
The actor of 'Southern Land' breathed his last at 7:19 am on May 1.

Artist Le Binh discovered lung cancer in April 2018 and quietly began treatment because he did not want his friends and audience to worry about him. He always maintained an optimistic and cheerful spirit, hoping that his health would improve so that he could return to work, perform shows to earn money to take care of his life and pay for hospital bills. In August, when some close artists shared his illness with the public, many colleagues organized a fundraiser to support his treatment. In mid-March this year, Le Binh became weaker when the cancer had metastasized to his spinal cord, causing paralysis in the lower half of his body. He had to use a wheelchair, his legs were swollen, and he had difficulty cleaning himself. He needed someone to take care of him in all his daily activities. In his last days, he was so weak that he could not speak every time someone came to visit him in the hospital. Knowing that his illness was difficult to overcome, he only wished that he had a little more strength to complete his final tasks so that he could pass away peacefully.

He had three wishes before leaving, one was to complete the memoirs that he had been nurturing for the past two years; the second was a collection of short stories.Happy and sad with my uncle and nephewhas been written for 5-6 years now; thirdly, he wishes that when he passes away, the money that everyone contributed and shared, if there is any left, please send it back to the Artists' Association.
Le Binh's real name is Le Thanh Son, born in 1953 in a family from the Western region. From a propaganda painter, he became an actor, writer, and director of many plays. He won three gold medals, three silver medals at professional and mass theater festivals and a certificate of merit from the Ministry of National Defense. More than 10 of Le Binh's plays were staged at IDECAF, 5B, Phu Nhuan theater... Le Binh is also known for his role as an actor in more than 60 movies and TV series, including famous movies such as:Buffalo Wool Season, Southern Land, Duck Calling in the Field, Ugly Girl...
On screen, Le Binh is often assigned to play the role of an honest, simple farmer or a poor, hard-working father in the city. The artist once experienced the pain of a broken marriage because his wife was addicted to gambling. He has 3 sons. The eldest son died in a traffic accident, the second son is in drug rehabilitation. There was a time when he lived with his youngest son in a small apartment in Ho Chi Minh City.
