Attempted burglary leads to man setting fire to 76-year-old homeowner while he sleeps.

After breaking into a 76-year-old woman's house to steal but being discovered, the thief returned with gasoline, poured it onto the bed, and set the homeowner on fire.

On May 2nd, the Hai Lang District Police (Quang Tri Province) announced that they are currently holding Le Sy Dung (41 years old, residing in Van Quy village, Hai Tan commune, Hai Lang district) in custody for allegedly using gasoline to set fire to a 76-year-old woman in the same neighborhood.

Authorities determined that at 0:05 AM on April 30th, the suspect, carrying gasoline, broke into the house of Ms. Le Thi Thi (76 years old, residing in Van Quy village). After entering the house, the suspect poured gasoline onto Ms. Thi's bed and set it on fire.

The fire caused her to suffer severe burns, and she had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

At the police station, Dung confessed that on the evening of April 28th, he sneaked into Mrs. Thi's house to steal money but was discovered and scolded, so he sought revenge.

The incident is currently being investigated by the authorities.
