Up 5 places, SLNA still 'slips' out of top 100 Asian club rankings

(Baonghean.vn) - Vietnam has 3 representatives in the top 100 rankings of Asian clubs recently announced by the Asian Football Confederation - AFC. SLNA is only ranked 108th.

According to the latest announcement of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on the club rankings, Vietnamese football has 3 representatives in the top 100 including Hanoi FC, Binh Duong and Thanh Hoa. The Asian club rankings are based on the accumulated points of the teams.

Defending champions Hanoi are the highest ranked Vietnamese team at 73rd place (up 13 places) and 8th in Southeast Asia with 20.95 points. Next is Binh Duong at 85th place. The last Vietnamese team in the top 100 is Thanh Hoa at 99th place on the rankings.

If counted in the top 125, Vietnam has 2 more teams: Song Lam Nghe An (ranked 108) and Than Quang Ninh (ranked 125). Of which, SLNA only achieved 8.78 points, up 5 places compared to 2018 and Than Quang Ninh achieved 6.78 points.

The highest ranked club in this list is Shanghai SIPG - the reigning champions of the Chinese Super League. Oscar and Hulk play for the club. The next positions are Al Duhail, Al Ain, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors and Kashima Antlers. In the top 20 clubs, most come from regions with outstanding football such as Northeast Asia and West Asia.

Leading the Southeast Asian football team rankings is Ceres Negros FC of the Philippines ranked 31st. Xuan Truong's team and also the reigning champion of the Thai League, Buriram, is ranked 33rd on the rankings.

Despite their good form in the Thai League, they were unsuccessful in the group stage of the Asian Champions League. Dang Van Lam's Muangthong United only ranked 43rd in the Asian rankings and ranked 5th in the region.
