At exactly 10:00 a.m. on May 9, in the capital Moscow, Russia solemnly held a military parade to celebrate the 74th anniversary of Victory Day over Fascism (May 9, 1945 - May 9, 2019) at Red Square, to "honor the victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945".

Before beginning his speech at the parade, Russian President Putin took a moment to remember the Russian soldiers and people who sacrificed their lives for victory day.

The parade was attended by more than 13,000 soldiers from 35 military units, along with about 200 vehicles and military equipment. The most notable weapons were the 2S19M self-propelled artillery system - one of the most modern artillery systems of the Russian Armed Forces, the T-14 Armata main battle tank, the S-400 long-range air defense missile launcher, and the Pantsir S1 air defense missile system.

Due to bad weather conditions, today's official commemorative parade had to cancel the flyover performance of the Su-34, Su-30 and Su-35S fighter squadrons.

According to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, North Korea's launch of two short-range missiles on May 9 was a mild protest against the US after the second US-North Korea summit in Hanoi at the end of February and risked complicating nuclear negotiations with Washington. "Whatever North Korea's intentions are, we warn that it could make negotiations more difficult," he said.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JSC) said the two warheads launched by North Korea on May 9 appeared to be short-range missiles launched from North Pyongan Province. This was the second missile launch by North Korea in less than a week after the test-fire of short-range missiles and rocket artillery at a training ground near Wonsan on May 4.

Turkish military personnel will arrive in Russia at the end of May to undergo training in operating advanced S-400 air defense missile systems. A Russian military source said the training will last about five months. The Russian military source also stressed that the S-400 missile defense systems are expected to be delivered to Türkiye by the end of 2019.

The US government has previously warned that it will suspend the F-35 stealth fighter contract with Türkiye if the country is still determined to buy the Russian S-400 missile system. According to Acting US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, he has met with representatives of US aerospace manufacturers to discuss possible options if Türkiye refuses to comply with this request.
