(Baonghean.vn) - The idea of building a walking street in Vinh city has been approved by the people and they want it to be implemented soon while ensuring factors such as security, order, environmental sanitation, parking...

After Nghe An Newspaper published the opinion of Architect Tran Ngoc Chinh - Chairman of the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association, former Deputy Minister of Construction on "Should Vinh City open a walking street?", the editorial office received a lot of attention, feedback, and recommendations from people on this issue.

Mr. Tran Ba Toan - owner of a grocery kiosk on Ho Tung Mau street

“My family has been doing business here for over 20 years. Through the media, I learned that Vinh city plans to open a walking street to create a space for entertainment and relaxation for urban residents in general and tourists in particular. I strongly agree with this policy.

However, the issue that we, the traders, are concerned about is that when converting this street into a pedestrian street, will it affect business and trading when prohibiting vehicles from circulating through here? When forming a pedestrian street, will businesses change their business types and trade in what products is appropriate? Will we be consulted, guided, supported in converting and trained in business culture to suit the pedestrian street?

Ms. Tran Thi Hoa - Owner of an art photo studio on Ho Tung Mau Street

“Opening a walking street is necessary and an inevitable trend for a city like Vinh. Currently, we, the people, do not know specifically how the city will open a walking street on Ho Tung Mau Street with the planning? At night or during the day, all days of the week or only on weekends?

In any case, I hope that when establishing a walking street, the city must carefully research, plan in detail and consult with the people, especially the people on the relevant streets.

The most important thing is that the walking street must have its own identity to serve the needs of relaxation, entertainment, sightseeing, creating a separate space for urban residents and tourists. For example: arranging activities: folk games, street music, cultural activities such as portrait photography, portrait drawing...; arranging craft village space: flower and ornamental plant craft, embroidery, weaving, rattan and bamboo weaving... for people to experience and shop for souvenirs. As for food and drink, snacks should be arranged, avoiding the city's walking street for eating and drinking, chaos and chaos.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thanh - resident of Ho Tung Mau street:

“My family is originally from this street, we have lived here for generations and we are probably the only family that lives on Ho Tung Mau Street without doing business. What I am most concerned about is the infrastructure, especially the parking lots, so that they are suitable and do not cause inconvenience to the households living on this street; the sidewalks need to be upgraded and the street lights need to be redecorated appropriately.

The second is the issue of security, order and environmental sanitation. In fact, on Ho Tung Mau Street, on major holidays and important events taking place in the Square, vehicles are banned many times. At that time, the street is crowded but not noisy, very pleasant. However, when the walking street is formed, the number of people coming here will be very large with all kinds of components and many accompanying services, operating mainly at night, so it is necessary to pay attention to the issue of security, order and environmental sanitation for the street.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai – House No. 158, Hong Bang Street

After following the information, I see that the city also has the idea of building a walking street on Hong Bang Street. This street has many advantages for developing a walking street such as many clothing and souvenir shops, many restaurants with rich cuisine, besides, there are also many hotels and motels around for tourists to stay. This street has the potential to develop bustlingly and bustlingly in the future.

However, in my opinion, this route should not be built as a walking street at this time for many reasons. Here, the infrastructure is not yet synchronous, there are still few electric lights, the roadway is still quite narrow compared to other routes. Besides, there are many households with cars on both sides of the road, if vehicles are banned at night, many people on both sides of the road will have difficulty in their daily life and travel, so calculating the hours of vehicle ban at night and considering parking spaces for households on the route is something we are very concerned about.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Lam - house number 149, Phan Dinh Phung street

I completely agree with the policy of opening a walking street on Phan Dinh Phung Street. This is one of the major traffic hubs in Vinh City with a large daily traffic volume, and is located close to Vinh Market and Cua Nam Flower Garden, so the number of tourists and pedestrians will be very large.

However, before thinking about establishing a walking street, the city needs to have a policy to upgrade sidewalks and infrastructure. Because, although this street has a very airy 9 meter wide sidewalk, the sidewalk is not uniform, many sections have been eroded, degraded, and sunk, causing loss of urban beauty.

In addition, the lighting system is still limited, the drainage system is not yet synchronized, people on both sides of the street sell specific items such as construction materials, tables and chairs... not specializing in food or souvenirs, if the walking street is opened at this time, it will be very difficult to satisfy the people and tourists.
