The Japanese Foreign Minister is currently in Moscow on an official visit to Russia. The signing of a peace treaty between the two countries will be the main topic on the agenda. This is the third round of negotiations on this issue since the beginning of the year.
During a meeting in Singapore on November 14, 2018, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed to actively maintain dialogue on a peace treaty, based on the Joint Declaration on Ending the State of War between the two countries signed on October 19, 1956. Diplomatic relations between the two countries have improved, but a peace treaty has not yet been signed.
The two foreign ministers will also discuss global and regional issues. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the sides will exchange views on the current situation in the Asia-Pacific region, ways to cope with risks and challenges, and cooperation on the international arena.
