(Baonghean.vn) - Seeing the scene of 5 sao of watermelon, of which 4 sao were about to be harvested, being destroyed, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh (residing in Dien Phong commune, Dien Chau district) sat down in the field, crying like a 3-year-old child.

Crying in the melon field

More than 3 days after the incident of 5 sao of watermelon being destroyed by bad guys, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh (residing in Hamlet 1, Dien Phong Commune, Dien Chau District) is still restless. Ms. Thanh said that she has lived in the commune for nearly 20 years and has never had any conflicts with anyone, yet there was a bad guy who had the heart to destroy more than 5 sao of her family's watermelon in the night.

“My family doesn’t know who to suspect because we’ve never had any major conflicts with anyone. But it’s highly likely that the person who destroyed our watermelons is someone from the same commune, because that’s how they know exactly where my watermelon field is located and where the boundaries are,” Thanh said, adding that she’s discussing with her husband about borrowing money to install cameras in the house, in case someone tries to harm the family again.

Ms. Thanh is from Thanh Chuong district, married and lives in Dien Chau. Her husband is a construction worker, leaving early and returning late. She has been taking care of the farming and education of her three children for many years. Therefore, when hearing the news that Ms. Thanh's family was sabotaged, everyone was surprised.

"My neighbors reported that my family's melon field was vandalized, but I couldn't believe it. Now I don't have the mind to take care of the remaining 5 sao of melons that have just bloomed."

Earlier, at around 5:30 a.m. on May 11, while at home, Ms. Thanh and her husband were informed by local residents that their family’s watermelon field had been vandalized. Upon hearing the news, Ms. Thanh and her relatives immediately rushed out to the field to check.

In front of her was the image of a watermelon field that had been uprooted, many plants had their branches cut off, the whole field was withered under the sun. Ms. Thanh sat down in the middle of the field, crying like a three-year-old child. Because the watermelon field was the main source of income for the family, the source of income for 2 children in university and 1 in high school.

In fact, Ms. Thanh’s 3 destroyed melon fields have an area of about 5 sao located in 3 different fields. Of which, 4 sao have grown melons and can be harvested in about 10 days.

“Yesterday, the police came to work and estimated the family’s damage at more than 80 million VND,” Ms. Thanh said, adding that this year watermelon prices are good, 1kg costs from 8,000 to 10,000 VND, so the more I think about it, the more heartbroken I become.

condemnable behavior

The incident of bad guys destroying more than 5 hectares of watermelon of Ms. Thanh's family is causing confusion and anger for the people of Dien Phong commune in general and watermelon growing households in particular.

Mr. Truong Hong Khoi - Chairman of Dien Phong Commune People's Committee said that this is the first time such an incident has happened in the commune and people are very upset because Ms. Thanh has long been considered a good farmer and lives in harmony with her neighbors.

According to the Chairman of this commune, because watermelons are ready to be harvested and have good prices this year, the fact that the subject chose this time to destroy them is cruel and causes outrage among the people.

Agreeing with the view of the Chairman of Dien Phong Commune People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Quang Tung - Chairman of Nghe An Province Farmers' Association was also very indignant and condemned the vandalism of bad guys.

“This is a condemnable act and an act of vandalism against other people’s property,” Mr. Tung said, asking the authorities to quickly find the culprit so that farmers are no longer confused and worried like they have been in the past few days, thereby helping them to stabilize production soon.

To stabilize people's minds and prevent possible acts of sabotage, the Dien Phong commune government has directed the commune police force to coordinate with the district police to find the perpetrators, and to coordinate with the militia and self-defense forces to increase patrols to prevent acts of sabotage.

"Through the press, the commune government also asked people not to panic or worry, but to continue production with peace of mind," Mr. Khoi affirmed.
