Federation Council member Alexei Pushkov commented on Twitter on newly elected Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's statement that Ukraine will take back Crimea.

“I would be surprised if all the enthusiasm of the new president of Ukraine is just demagoguery: all empty talk about honor, about liberating the Crimean Tatar homeland from some kind of invasion. Let us just hope that this region is not the only place where Zelensky shows himself,” Pushkov said.

Earlier, in his speech on the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Crimean Tatar Genocide, Zelensky expressed hope that Ukraine would liberate "the homeland of the Crimean Tatars from occupation".

Zelensky's office has said it does not recognize the results of the referendum on Crimea's reunification with Russia. The newly elected Ukrainian leader himself has said the peninsula will return to Ukraine after a change of power in Russia. However, Zelensky admitted that he does not know how to take Crimea back immediately after winning the presidential election.
