Without Phan Van Duc, how bad is SLNA's attack?

(Baonghean.vn) - Although Song Lam Nghe An is the team with the most solid defense in V.League 2019, its attack is among the least effective.

This season, SLNA's scoring performance is considered the worst ever. SLNA players have only scored 7 goals (0.7 goals/match), including 1 own goal, only 1 goal more than the achievement of the new player Viettel.

At this point in V.League 2018, SLNA had a very bad start with only 1 win but also scored 9 goals (0.9 goals/1 match). In 2017, coach Duc Thang and his team scored 14 goals (1.4 goals/match) and in 2016, it was 11 goals (1.1 goals/match). The above numbers of SLNA after 10 matches are far behind the achievements in V.League 2014 and 2015.

It is worth mentioning that, except for the loss to Hanoi, SLNA has had a good ball control rate but a very poor shot success rate. In the 4 consecutive matches where SLNA all had a 0-0 draw, SLNA had a total of 24 shots, of which 8 were on target.

In particular, in the match between Hai Phong and Viettel, SLNA only had 1 shot on target in the entire match. The percentage of shots on target of SLNA's attack in the last 4 matches was 33% and of course they could not beat the opponent's goalkeeper or hit the crossbar or post.

Of the 7 goals that SLNA scored, Michael Olaha contributed 3 goals, 1 from Khac Ngoc's penalty against Thanh Hoa, 1 from the opponent's mistake and only 3 from organized attacks. The quality of SLNA's crosses and free kicks was very low and became harmless.

On the other hand, for a long time, SLNA has not had a player capable of direct free kicks, converting set pieces into goals. In football, 30-40% of goals come from set pieces and this is clearly a weakness of the Nghe An team.

One of the factors that made SLNA's attack line play ineffectively was the absence of midfielder Phan Van Duc and the poor performance of foreign striker Alves Santos. Players like Phuc Tinh and Tuan Tai have not met the requirements of the attack line.

SLNA’s attack is too dependent on Michael Olaha and this player has not found a suitable partner to maintain his inspiration, so he has not scored in the past 4 matches. More importantly, SLNA needs to define a clear goal in V.League to motivate the players. That is one of the tasks placed on the shoulders of head coach Nguyen Duc Thang./.
