Specialty fish die in cages on Hua Na hydroelectric lake

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 23, on the surface of Hua Na Hydroelectric Lake, Que Phong District, Nghe An, there were many dead fish floating on the water surface.

The main fish are catfish, grass carp, and silver carp - specialty fish with high value.

The area where many fish died was at the end of Thong Thu commune, bordering Dong Van commune. Here, many fish cages of local people were dead and floating white. The dead fish were large fish, ready to be harvested.

According to statistics, there are 4 fish farming households that suffered the most deaths, with estimated damage of about 200 million VND.

Fish cage farmers at Hua Na hydropower plant said the cause could be due to the shallow lake bed and turbid water, and farmers did not have time to move their fish cages to deeper water.

Hua Na Hydropower Reservoir has nearly 280 fish cages owned by households in Thong Thu and Dong Van communes, raising specialty fish of very high value. Many households have discharged dead fish into the reservoir, causing people to worry about environmental pollution.
