Parents should never leave children alone in cars, especially on hot days.

According to Golden Gate Weather Services, since 1998, 800 children have died from heatstroke in cars.

The most recent incident was the death of a 4-year-old boy in Saint Paul, Minnesota (USA). According to US media, the boy's father forgot and left the boy in the car for several hours, causing the boy to suffer from heat stroke.

It is worth mentioning that the weather outside is quite pleasant at only about 22 degrees Celsius, however, in reality, the temperature inside the car can suddenly heat up even when the weather is mild.

Golden Gate Weather Services said 54 percent of those 800 cases involved parents or caregivers forgetting about children in vehicles, and in some cases, children were intentionally left inside.

Last year, 52 children died in the US after being trapped in cars, a record high, according to Kids and Cars. In comparison, 43 children died in 2017. In April 2019 alone, five children died.

However, many questions have been raised about why parents leave their children alone in the car. Psychology professor David Diamond, at the University of South Florida, said that most cases are due to parents forgetting their children inside the car.

From there, he suggested that car manufacturers should have software and applications to remind parents when leaving children in the back seat.

Currently, GM, Nissan and some Hyundai models from 2019 have this feature, however, older models do not have it. Therefore, parents should be careful when leaving children in the back seat, especially in hot weather.
