Clashes between Palestinian Muslims and Israeli police broke out again on June 2 at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, known to Israelis as the Temple Mount, in Jerusalem, a sensitive religious site in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The incident occurred as Israelis began their Jerusalem Day holiday and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan was about to end. Muslims were angry that Jews had visited the site.
AFP (France) quoted police as saying that protesters gathered and barricaded themselves in the mosque as the force tried to disperse the crowd. The Waqf Islamic Organization, which oversees the site, said police fired rubber bullets and tear gas at the crowd. The clashes left seven people arrested and 45 injured. The organization also said that the police closed the mosque's doors and tied the protesters together.

A bill has been introduced in the US House of Representatives that would grant Kiev the status of a major US ally outside NATO. Such a status would be valid until Kiev formally joins the North Atlantic Alliance.
The Ukrainian diplomatic mission said that the draft law "On assisting Ukraine in protecting its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity" implies the transfer of anti-tank, anti-ship and anti-aircraft weapons to Kiev, the sale of lethal defense equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as helping to strengthen Kiev's cybersecurity to protect against the "threat of Russian aggression".

Canadian television channel CBC reported on June 2 that officials in the western province of Alberta have issued a new evacuation warning for 12,000 local residents as wildfires there continue to spread and are at risk of becoming more severe due to strong winds and hot, dry weather.
As of June 1, the wildfire had spread to an area of about 280,000 hectares, nearly half the size of the Fort McMurray wildfire in the same province in 2016. The current wildfires have forced 11,000 people to evacuate. More than 2,300 firefighters are working to extinguish the fire with the support of 228 helicopters.
