VIETNAM: A TRUSTED PARTNER FOR SUSTAINABLE PEACE
On June 7, 2019, at the plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly, Vietnam was elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term. First of all, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, I would like to express my sincere and deepest gratitude to the United Nations member states for their support and trust in electing Vietnam for the second time to hold this important position. This is an important recognition and high appreciation by the international community for Vietnam's worthy role and contribution to international and regional affairs; demonstrating Vietnam's increasingly high position and prestige in the international arena.
Vietnam becoming a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council is a great honor, affirming the correct foreign policy of our Party and State, but it is also an extremely heavy responsibility, requiring us to make every effort to fulfill the important tasks entrusted by the international community. Vietnam has and will continue to consistently implement a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, diversification of foreign relations, proactive and active international integration; be a friend, a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community; promote compliance with the United Nations Charter and international law, actively contribute to the common efforts of the international community for peace, cooperation and development.
With new determination, new spirit, with deep confidence in the strength and will of the entire Party and people, with the efforts and effective and harmonious coordination of all levels, ministries, departments and branches and the support of the people, we firmly believe that Vietnam will successfully assume the responsibility of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, worthy of being a reliable partner for sustainable peace.
