Speeding up the progress of key irrigation projects in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - Working with provincial leaders, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep suggested that Nghe An needs to have a plan to regularly maintain and repair irrigation reservoirs and dams to ensure safety; have a plan to effectively manage and operate irrigation works with a reasonable fee collection mechanism.
On June 13, a working delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development led by Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep worked with Nghe An province on the construction progress of key irrigation works and plans for effective management and operation of irrigation works in Nghe An.
Comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee accompanied and worked with the delegation. Also attending were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, representatives of project management boards and related units and localities.

At the meeting, Mr. Hoang Nghia Hieu - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development reported to the working delegation on the current status of irrigation works, the network of natural disaster prevention and control works in the area; management, exploitation and annual maintenance and repair work to combat drought and prevent natural disasters.
In addition to the irrigation system consisting of 625 dams, 615 pumping stations and 5,950 km of canals, since 2014, with the attention of the Central Government, the province has been allocated 255 billion VND annually for maintenance, repair and regular expenses.
In particular, since 2010, the province has implemented a number of large irrigation projects such as Bara Do Luong, Ban Mong Irrigation and many other irrigation canals, sea dykes, lakes and dams.
The area of industrial crops, vegetables and fruit trees with irrigation is increasing; the proportion of people with access to clean water is increasing, and rural sanitation is ensured.
Besides, despite continuously suffering many damages from natural disasters, the province continues to devote resources to investing and upgrading disaster prevention and control works and overcoming damages caused by natural disasters, flash floods, landslides, etc.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep shared the difficulties and characteristics of Nghe An; at the same time, he suggested that in the coming time, Nghe An needs to have a plan to regularly maintain and repair reservoirs and irrigation dams to ensure safety; have a plan to effectively manage and operate irrigation works with a reasonable fee collection mechanism; use the remaining funds reasonably to invest in upgrading clean water works; continue to review and coordinate with Thanh Hoa to finalize the arising costs related to compensation for site clearance to submit to the Government for approval to ensure project progress...

Earlier, in the morning, the working delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and provincial leaders conducted a field survey at the construction site of the Bara Do Luong Upgrade Project; inspected the progress of items at the Ban Mong irrigation auxiliary dam and the Ban Mong irrigation resettlement area in Chau Binh commune (Quy Chau); and inspected the construction progress of the main Ban Mong irrigation dam in Yen Hop commune (Quy Hop).

At the survey sites, the working group had a preliminary understanding of the construction progress of major projects and some issues arising from actual construction through recommendations and proposals from the Management Board, supervision consultants and construction contractors.
