United Airlines Flight 627 from Denver, Colorado, had a flat tire and skidded off the runway while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey on the afternoon of June 15. The plane was carrying 166 passengers.

No one was seriously injured in the incident. Some passengers suffered minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.

"A preliminary assessment indicates that the left main landing gear tire exploded while the aircraft was landing," the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said. The FAA said the plane veered to the left of the runway after the tire exploded, although the agency previously said the plane skidded off the runway and only came to a stop when it hit thick brush.

United Airlines later confirmed that the plane did not skid off the runway. The plane was towed away from the airport after passengers were evacuated and moved to the terminal.

The incident caused flights to be delayed for an hour at Newark Liberty Airport. The FAA is continuing to investigate the incident.
