Prostate, testicular and colorectal cancers are common in men and have a cure rate of more than 90% if detected early.

Colorectal cancer

Doctor Pham Cong Khanh - Deputy Head of Endoscopy Department, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said that colorectal cancer can be effectively treated if detected at an early stage. About 90% of cases can be prevented if polyps are detected early and removed.

Symptoms of the disease can be similar to other diseases, so the best way is to screen for colorectal cancer when there are no signs. If detected early, the patient will be treated with minimally invasive methods that can preserve the colon, help recover quickly, the recurrence rate is less than 1%, saving time and treatment costs.

In Vietnam, colorectal cancer is one of the 10 most common cancers, with the fifth highest mortality rate in both men and women. The disease is common in people over 40 years old, and those with a family history of colorectal cancer.

Prostate cancer

Dr. Nguyen Hoang Duc - Head of the Department of Urology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, said that the specific cause of prostate cancer has not yet been determined, so early examination and detection of the disease is very important. Early detection and timely treatment have a 90% cure rate. Late detection has a 5-year survival rate of less than 30%.

Prostate cancer screening tests include the PSA test and digital rectal exam.

Prostate cancer ranks 12th in prevalence in Vietnam. The disease is the second leading cause of cancer death in men.

Testicular cancer

Dr. Duc advises men to get into the habit of self-examining their testicles to detect cancer early. This disease is over 90% curable if detected early.

Men from 15 years old should practice the habit of self-examining their testicles every month by standing in front of a mirror to see if there is any swelling in the testicle area. Check with both hands, the middle finger below and the thumb above the testicle. The most common location of the tumor is on the sides or in front. If you see an unusual hard mass, you must see a urologist or andrologist for early diagnosis and intervention.

Testicular cancer accounts for about 1% of cancers in men, usually occurring between the ages of 25 and 35.
