(Baonghean.vn) – It seemed as though midfielder Phan Văn Đức of Song Lam Nghe An could return to play in Round 13 of the V.League 2019, but he unexpectedly suffered a recurrence of his injury.

Phan Văn Đức had a busy 2018, playing nearly 60 matches across multiple fronts, including the U23 Asian Championship, the 18th Asian Games, the 2018 AFF Cup, the V.League, the National Cup, and the 2018 AFC Cup. In 2019, midfielder Phan Văn Đức continued to play for the national team at the 2019 Asian Cup.

Phan Văn Đức played in the opening V.League match for SLNA against Quảng Nam at the start of the season and suffered an injury. It could be said that, similar to Đình Trọng of Hanoi FC, Phan Văn Đức was overloaded due to playing too many matches and not having enough time for his body to recover, leading to the injury.

During a training session at SLNA, Phan Văn Đức suffered an injury and underwent a check-up. The midfielder, born in 1996, was diagnosed with a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee. The injury is not too serious, and doctors advised him against surgery, recommending only rehabilitation exercises. His expected return to playing time is two months.

However, after completing his rehabilitation and therapy, he trained with SLNA. A few days before the match against HAGL in round 13 of the V.League, Phan Van Duc suffered a recurrence of his old injury. After examination, Phan Van Duc's injury was found to be much more complicated.

He suffered a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his knee, swelling of the lateral collateral ligament, posterior cruciate ligament tear, and diffuse contusions and swelling of the lateral condyle. With such injuries, Phan Văn Đức was forced to undergo surgery in Singapore and will be sidelined for a year.

Regarding the cause of Phan Van Duc's injury, besides the possibility of overwork, coach Nguyen Duc Thang said: "Injuries are unavoidable in football. There are many reasons for players' injuries, but an important part comes from the players themselves."

Currently, nearly half of the teams in the 2019 V.League have their own coaches or fitness experts. However, SLNA is not among them. Overwork, eagerness to return to the field, coupled with inadequate medical care, can easily lead to players re-injuring their players, or even making existing injuries more serious.
