Female US Presidential Candidate: Conflict with Iran could have serious consequences
(Baonghean) - On July 7, Sputnik News quoted an interview of Tulsi Gabbard, a female candidate for US President in 2020, with CBS News about her views on the conflict between the US and Iran.
Tulsi Gabbard, a 38-year-old Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii, asserted that Trump was wrong to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal signed in 2015 by former President Barack Obama. Although she believes a “stronger” deal is needed, it is better than no deal at all.

“I think the deal has some flaws. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is that the deal prevented war. And the dangerous thing that the Trump administration is doing is pushing us closer and closer to war with Iran by destroying the deal,” the Democratic congresswoman said.
“By deploying troops in the Gulf, they have essentially ignited another war that could be more devastating than what we saw in the Iraq war, which I fought in,” Tulsi Gabbard stressed.
Previously, Ms. Gabbard served in the US military in Iraq and Kuwait in a field medical unit of the Hawaii National Guard.
Amid growing tensions with the US, Iran has just announced plans to enrich uranium to 5%, exceeding the level of the nuclear deal signed between Tehran and six powers in 2015. Under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran's uranium enrichment is limited to a maximum of 3.67%.
July 7 also marked the end of a 60-day deadline Iran set for European signatories to the nuclear deal to salvage the deal by protecting Iran's economy from US sanctions.
On May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump announced that the US officially withdrew from the JCPOA agreement, claiming that Tehran had violated the terms of the nuclear deal. Immediately after leaving the agreement, the US continuously re-imposed sanctions on Iran.
