Drug addict takes 100 million VND into the border forest to buy drugs

(Baonghean.vn) - Although he has been a drug addict for many years and has been in prison for drug-related crimes, Hoang Quoc Viet continues to reoffend. This time, Viet took 100 million VND with him to the forest near the border to buy drugs and opium.

On the morning of July 17, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Hoang Quoc Viet (born 1969), residing in Phong Thinh commune, Thanh Chuong district, for the crime of illegal possession of narcotics.

Due to drug addiction, at around 4:30 a.m. on April 13, 2019, Viet brought 100 million VND to hire a motorbike taxi to go to Dai Son village, Thanh Son commune, then walked along the forest road to the border area to buy drugs for use.

When he reached the border area with Laos, Viet met a Laotian who asked him, “Do you sell heroin?” The Laotian asked how much money he had, and Viet replied, “100 million VND.” The Laotian agreed to sell Viet a cake of heroin and also gave him a package of opium.

After receiving the drugs, Viet hid the drugs in the back of his pants and walked home. When he arrived at Dai Son village, Thanh Son commune, he was checked and arrested by Thanh Chuong district police. The seized evidence was 364.21 grams of heroin and 95.27 grams of opium.

At the trial, the defendant admitted that he was a long-term addict and bought drugs to use gradually. Hoang Quoc Viet confessed honestly and asked the court to consider reducing his sentence.

Considering the case as a whole, the People's Court sentenced Hoang Quoc Viet to 16 years in prison for illegal possession of drugs.

It is known that in 2007, Hoang Quoc Viet was sentenced by the People's Court of Nghe An province to 14 years in prison for the crime of Illegal drug trafficking and the crime of harboring illegal drug use.
