(Baonghean.vn) - Fishermen in Hoang Mai town are worried that there will be no place for their boats to anchor and take shelter from storms due to dozens of oyster cages taking up space in the Con Lach area.

The State has invested in infrastructure in Lach Con to make it a place for boats to avoid and shelter from storms during the rainy and stormy season since previous years, but the situation of people releasing oyster cages on the riverbed has hindered boats when entering to avoid and shelter from storms.

People in Quynh Loc commune said that currently, many local households are raising oysters on Con creek with dozens of rafts, making it difficult for boats to enter the storm shelter area.

According to a reporter’s survey, there are currently dozens of concrete piers built along Lach Con to anchor boats to avoid storms. However, right on the riverbed, under these concrete piers, there are oyster cages that fishermen’s boats cannot approach.

Mr. Phan Van Hai - Chairman of the Quynh Lap Commune Fisheries Association said: Quynh Lap Commune has more than 400 fishing boats. The fact that households in Quynh Loc and Quynh Phuong communes raise oysters in the Con creek area makes it difficult for boats to enter and take shelter from storms. We request that local authorities have solutions to promptly relocate oyster cages when the rainy and stormy season is coming, so that boats have a place to take shelter from storms.

Mr. Le Duy Trung - Chairman of Quynh Loc Commune People's Committee added: It is illegal for households to raise oysters on Con canal, where the waterway is for boats to avoid and take shelter from storms. Currently, the locality is mobilizing households to dismantle it before the rainy and stormy season.

According to research, the oyster farming households on Lach Con were all households that previously made a living by illegally mining sand and gravel. After changing their occupation, these households raised oysters. However, this oyster farming is affecting the storm shelter activities of fishing boats, so people are facing difficulties.
