The feelings of Dan Lai people at the source of Giang River before leaving their hometown

The resettlement project for 35 households of the Dan Lai ethnic group was implemented according to Decision 280/2006/QD-TTg dated December 16, 2006 of the Prime Minister on approving the Project on Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Dan Lai ethnic group currently living in the core zone of Pu Mat National Park, Con Cuong district. The objective of the project is to improve living conditions, develop socio-economic conditions to conserve and sustainably develop this ethnic group, while ensuring border security and protecting the ecosystem of Pu Mat National Park. To implement this content, a new resettlement area in Ba Ha - Ke Tat area, Thach Ngan commune (Con Cuong) has been built with a planned area of ​​100 hectares, of which 1.40 hectares of residential land, 95.19 hectares of production land. Along with that, 35 stilt houses and many accompanying auxiliary works have been completed since 2011.

“Born, raised, married, and had children in this land. Despite the distance, isolation, and difficult economic conditions, this is where I was born and raised, my roots. Now, leaving the land that I have been attached to for decades, everyone feels sad, regretful, and reluctant. But for the sake of my future and that of my children, I accept to leave.

Many times following the group to the new hometown, I found everything more convenient: transportation, medical treatment, and children's education. In addition to growing rice, corn, acacia, raising cattle and poultry, many households also got rich from selling groceries, milling services or exporting labor... so they wanted a better life. That was the motivation for the villagers to "leave their roots" and go.

“My family has 2 households of 2 daughters moving to a new place. Arranging and preparing things for the children and grandchildren makes me cry. Living far away from children and grandchildren is sad, I miss them and love them. But now we have a phone and a motorbike, sometimes the children and grandchildren come to visit me, and then I go to visit them. Besides, it’s in the whole district, there’s nowhere so far away that I feel shy…

When you move to the new homeland, you will have a solid house, land for production, and your business will be doing well. I will come later.

“This year I am in 7th grade, I have to study at Mon Son Secondary School, 20 km from home, the roads are difficult to travel so sometimes I can only go home once every 2 months, and during the rainy season I have to endure. Studying far from home, living far from family, I miss my father, mother and siblings. Hearing my parents say that I am very happy to go to a new school near my home, I am very happy.

“This time, our village has 11 households moving to a new place. The villagers have been close to each other for generations, now that the households have to settle in their new hometown, they have to leave their village, their birthplace, and they feel very reluctant. In the past few days, I and the village executive committee have been visiting the relocated households to understand their thoughts and aspirations, and to share and be close to the villagers during their last days in the village.

In the new place, I hope that people will soon stabilize their lives, develop the economy, change their thinking and production habits to have a better future. But I also hope that people will preserve their national cultural identity, do not let it fade away...

“The Dan Lai people have lived here for generations, and are part of the “flesh and blood” of the Mon Son people. Now that they have left their village and homeland to move to a new land, they feel a bit lost and nostalgic. However, moving to a new place with favorable facilities, infrastructure, land for production, and expanded communication… will make life less difficult.

In recent days, the authorities and commune-level organizations, in addition to mobilizing and doing ideological work for people to relocate according to plan, have also arranged human resources to support people in counting assets, packing belongings, and transporting them to new places. At the same time, they organized meetings and farewells for people.
