Lost 13 million just because of running out of gas and still trying to drive
A 2014 Toyota Fortuner was driving on the road when it suddenly died. The inspection at the repair shop showed that the 7-seater had run out of gas but the driver still kept going, resulting in the fuel pump breaking down.
That was the case of a customer who recently brought his car to engineer Le Van Tach's garage in Vinh Yen (Vinh Phuc) for repair.
“The car died in the middle of the road, the initial cause was running out of gas. But when we came to my workshop to check, we discovered that the car's fuel pump was also broken. This was a very unfortunate incident caused by the driver's carelessness" - said Mr. Tach, the person who directly inspected the Fortuner.
Not including repair costs, the cost of buying a new genuine fuel pump to replace this car model costs about 13 million VND.
Mr. Tach explained: "When the car is almost out of fuel, the fuel gauge will light up and display the remaining distance. This parameter varies depending on the type of car. Some cars can go a few dozen kilometers, but some can go nearly 100 kilometers," Mr. Tach explained.
According to Mr. Tach, car users should not be subjective and go until the tank is empty before filling up, this not only causes the engine to suddenly stop but also causes damage to the fuel pump system. Specifically, the pump is placed in the fuel tank and is cooled by the fuel in the tank. If the fuel level is too low, the pump will be overloaded and will not be cooled and will lead to damage.

The dashboard display showed the car had only 2 km left. |
In addition, dirty fuel filter is also one of the reasons why the pump does not work effectively.
According to the reporter's records, many drivers subjectively let themselves fall into the situation of running out of gas before refueling. Even when the fuel gauge shows the remaining distance is 0 km, the driver still continues to drive for 3 km.
Engineer Tach and other auto technicians recommend that car users should carefully check the fuel before starting the driving journey. Absolutely avoid the situation of running out of fuel or showing 0 km but still continuing to drive. Some long-time car users believe that the safe driving experience is to fill up the gas tank when the fuel light is 1/4 or the indicator light is about 20-30 km.
