The President of Ukraine on August 7 had a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss the situation in the Donbass region. This was announced during an urgent meeting with security officials regarding the incident in which four Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the area of military operations in Donbass.

"Today I had an urgent phone call with Russian President Putin. An urgent phone call," President Zelensky said, emphasizing that the conflicts do not help Russia and Ukraine "get closer to peace." The Ukrainian president asked the Russian leader to put pressure to limit the violence in Donbass.

In what was described as a "quite long" phone call, President Zelensky also mentioned extending the construction of a bridge in the village of Lugansk and returning Ukrainian prisoners.

Earlier, President Zelensky called on the leaders of the countries in the "Norman format" group, including Russian President Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, to soon hold talks related to the death of four Ukrainian soldiers in Donbass.
