Super intensive shrimp farming in floating round tanks 'one of a kind' in Nghe An

For a long time, raising white-leg shrimp in earthen ponds, earthen ponds covered with tarpaulins... has been quite popular and quite familiar to the people of Nghe An. However, the cost of digging ponds, investing as well as waste treatment... is quite expensive, 1 hectare of shrimp also costs about 300 - 500 million VND. Besides, waste treatment at the bottom of the pond is difficult, potentially causing pathogens to remain in the soil and water environment for a long time.

After being taken by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An to visit a model in Bac Lieu, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung in Dien Trung (Dien Chau) returned to his hometown to invest in a floating round tank model.

To raise this technology, shrimp need to be raised first. Mr. Hung invested in 2 nursery tanks. After 20 days, the nursery tanks are stable and healthy before being moved to a round tank. This ensures that the shrimp get used to the new environment.

The characteristic of this floating round tank model is that the shrimp are raised completely on the ground, surrounded by thick, heavy-duty tarpaulin, and the steel pipes are designed in a circular shape, all constructed by locals according to the pond owner's request.

A shrimp pond has a capacity of 600m³, the height of the pond is 1.3m, diameter 25m, above is a net to reduce the heat. A shrimp pond like this costs just over 100 million VND, Mr. Hung invested in 8 tanks, the total cost is nearly 1 billion VND.

Mr. Hung said: The bottom treatment is in the center of the lake, siphoning the water out, through several small tanks and then settling back into the environment.

Raising in a round floating pond not only has few diseases but is also very healthy, with a density of 300 fish/m^2,Total shrimp output of 1 tank is about 2 tons, 8 tanks yield 16 tons of shrimp, although not profitable due to large investment, but it shows the right direction. Solid waste from the pond must be carefully filtered and collected regularly, this is one of the important secrets to the success of this model.

The first crop was just to get used to the farming, the second crop, Mr. Hung said, was more favorable and stable. All the shrimp raised were sold, the price was 100,000 - 120,000 VND/kg (100 shrimp/kg), Mr. Hung is rotating the ponds to ensure a continuous supply of shrimp.
