Song Lam 9 rice variety achieved a yield of over 6 tons/ha in the 2019 summer-autumn crop.
(Baonghean.vn) - In the context of many other rice varieties having serious yield reductions, even total losses in this year's summer-autumn crop, the Lth31 rice variety (Song Lam 9) still achieved a high yield - 60.2 quintals/ha.
On the morning of August 20, at Thanh Linh commune, Thanh Chuong district, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Nghe An Plant Varieties Center organized a field workshop to evaluate the results of implementing the subsidy policy for pure rice variety Lth31 (Song Lam 9) with high yield and good quality implemented by Nghe An Plant Varieties Center in Nghe An province.

In the summer-autumn crop of 2019, Nghe An Plant Varieties Center implemented a policy program to subsidize the price of new pure rice varieties with high yield and quality Lth31 (Song Lam 9) with a scale of 1,126 hectares in the whole province. In Thanh Linh and Thanh Chuong communes, the program was implemented with a scale of 23.7 hectares, the control variety was Khang Dan 18.
In harsh weather conditions, hot weather, prolonged drought, especially from June to July, the intense heat lasted continuously for more than 60 days, at the stage of rice heading and flowering, greatly affecting productivity, many areas were completely lost; the Lth31 rice variety still achieved an expected actual yield of 60.2 quintals/ha (nearly 20% higher than the control variety), with good rice quality.
Production practice shows that the Lth31 rice variety (Song Lam 9) has the ability to grow and develop strongly, has good drought resistance; and blooms relatively concentratedly. The rice panicles are large, with many grains, bright yellow, and closely packed. The growing period is short, 98 days in the summer-autumn crop.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Van Lap - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development stated: In harsh weather conditions like this summer-autumn crop, the advantages and disadvantages of each variety are very clear, heat-resistant varieties have very low yields. Initial statistics show that the whole province has 3,000 hectares of rice blooming but not forming grains, focusing on Khang Dan and Huong Bien varieties....
The Lth31 rice variety (Song Lam 9) has the advantage of being able to withstand high temperatures. The rice panicle-forming stage from June 22 to July 22 was completely covered by a long, intense heat wave, but it did not affect the ability to flower or set seeds, and the yield was high, demonstrating its superiority in drought conditions.
From the outstanding advantages of the Lth31 rice variety (Song Lam 9), the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed that the People's Committees of districts in Nghe An province include this rice variety in the variety structure in the following crops.
