(Baonghean.vn) - According to TASS, parallel to the road section, the railway line of the Crimean bridge, connecting the Crimean Peninsula and Sevastopol with Russia, will officially come into operation in December 2019.

Russian Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich said during an inspection visit to Sevastopol that the railway line on the Crimean bridge across the Kerch Strait is being built on schedule and is scheduled to be opened to traffic by the end of this year.

“Everything is going according to schedule. The railway system of Crimea and Sevastopol is planned to be connected to the rest of Russia by the end of this year,” Russian Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich said.

According to Crimean Railways, the railway line on the Crimean Bridge will officially go into operation from December 9-10, with ticket sales starting in October. Previously, Sergei Aksenov, the head of Crimea, affirmed that the speed of construction of the railway section of the Crimean Railway Bridge will allow trains to go into operation ahead of schedule.

Minister Dietrich added that the Sevastopol station has been “excellently” renovated and renovated, including: restoring the ground, decorating, and completely replacing the structure of the doors and windows. The Sevastoopol station is ready to receive and return trains, making the people of Sevastopol feel very satisfied.

Acting Governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhaev said that local authorities will take turns implementing logistics and transportation services within the city, facilitating the arrival and departure of passengers.

The 19 km Crimean Bridge has become the longest bridge in Europe, connecting the Crimean Peninsula and Sevastopol with Russia. The road part of the bridge has been officially operational since May 2019.

The first kilometers of the railway line connecting mainland Russia with the Crimean peninsula, running parallel to the road across the Kerch Strait, are also under construction.

The railway line across the Kerch Strait will connect the transport systems of the Crimean Peninsula and Russia. Since July 2018, auxiliary facilities, railway connections and stations have been built in advance.

It is expected that by 2020, the train traffic will reach 29 trips per day, operating between the Crimean Peninsula and Russia. Each train will consist of 15 passenger cars and 10 freight cars.
