Four 10th grade male students forced their female classmate to provide sexual services until morning.

Hoang La Duong, Mac Van Huy, Ly Anh Tu and La Anh Tu, 10th grade students, were found guilty by the People's Court of Ha Giang province.Child rapeand sentenced to 14 years, 13 years and six months, 13 years and eight years in prison respectively.

Duong, Huy and Ly Anh Tu appealed for a reduction in their sentences, while La Anh Tu accepted the sentence imposed by the first instance court.

Considering the petitions of the three defendants, today, August 28, the High People's Court in Hanoi agreed to reduce the sentences of Duong, Huy and Ly Anh Tu to six months each. The Court of Appeal held that the defendants' families had compensated the victims and paid the first instance court fees. In addition, the victims' representatives also submitted a petition to reduce the sentences of the defendants.

According to the first instance verdict, on the evening of December 4, 2017, after eating, Duong's group forced a classmate to go to the lake in Vinh Phuc commune, Bac Quang district (Ha Giang province) to eat snails. Seeing that the girl wanted to go home, the group took her to a construction worker's shack near the national highway. There, Duong beat the victim and forced her to have sex before taking her home.

Duong used a knife to cut her pants and threatened to burn them if she did not obey. Then, the teenager and his friends forced the girl to have sex, despite her resistance. The group held the girl from 10pm until 2am the next morning before taking her home. The girl told her family about the incident.

The actions of Duong and his accomplices were prosecuted from 20 years to life imprisonment, death penalty. However, the court of first instance considered that the defendants were minors, so the sentence was below the penalty range.
