The Russian military said the Iskander test launch was carried out by missile forces of the Eastern Military District from the Kapustin Yar training ground in Astrakhan province, nearly 1,200 km south of Moscow.

This was an activity within the framework of a tactical exercise and the Iskander missile hit a simulated target of "a key structure of the hypothetical enemy".

The Russian Defense Ministry's announcement said: "During the exercise, the Iskander tactical-operational missile system crews demonstrated their skills in performing the technical procedures for bringing the missile complex into combat mode, loading ammunition from the transporter to the self-propelled launcher and carrying out a missile strike at the designated coordinates."

The Russian Defense Ministry added that it used an Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to evaluate the effectiveness of the target destruction. Image signals were transmitted to the control point at the Kapustin Yar training ground in real time.

According to Russia's TASS news agency, the country's military has developed the Iskander-M version capable of using two types of missiles, including ballistic missiles and cruise missiles with a maximum range of 500 km. Meanwhile, Western media said that this Russian missile complex has nuclear capabilities./.
