The provinces of North Central Vietnam and the central coastal region are experiencing severe flooding, making them susceptible to outbreaks of diseases associated with the rainy season.

According to the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health, during and after storms and floods, countless microorganisms, dust, garbage, waste, etc., are carried by the water currents to many places, causing environmental pollution and posing a potential risk of disease outbreaks. Common diseases during the rainy season and floods include dengue fever, malaria, gastrointestinal diseases such as cholera, dysentery, typhoid, diarrhea, athlete's foot, influenza, conjunctivitis, etc.

- Practice daily personal hygiene, wash your feet thoroughly, and dry the spaces between your toes after contact with floodwater or contaminated water.

- Eliminate mosquito larvae/pupae and kill mosquitoes by covering water tanks and containers, introducing fish into large water containers, and removing waste materials such as bottles, jars, car tires, or natural water pockets to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs.

- Use mosquito nets when sleeping, even during the day.

- Clean and disinfect water tanks, wells, and water containers. Use chemicals to disinfect drinking and household water as directed by healthcare personnel.

- Follow the principle of cleaning up as the floodwaters recede, collecting, disposing of, and burying animal carcasses according to the instructions of health personnel.

- If you suspect you have the disease, you should seek examination and treatment at the nearest medical facility.
