(Baonghean.vn) - Sharing at the introduction of the Vietnam U19 team, new coach Philippe Troussier expressed that he was very happy and honored to lead the Vietnam team to the U19 Asian qualifiers. The coach who received the title of best coach in Asia revealed many other information.

During his coaching career, Mr. Philippe Troussier has led the teams of Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Qatar, Morocco, but his most successful period was the time he was the "captain" of the South African team competing in the 1998 World Cup and especially his achievement when leading Japan to the 2002 World Cup.

That year, Mr. Philippe Troussier made a huge splash when he helped Japan pass the group stage of the World Cup for the first time in history. Before that, Mr. Philippe Troussier led the team from the land of the rising sun to the quarterfinals of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Just about a month later, Philippe Troussier continued to leave a strong impression when he led the group of players who had just played brilliantly at the Olympic arena to shine and defeat Saudi Arabia in the final, helping the Japanese team win their second Asian Cup title in history.

At the press conference to announce and share information, the French coach shared his personal coaching philosophy. Mr. Troussier said that he and coach Park Hang-seo have similarities. "We share a common philosophy of inspiring and motivating players, helping them to strive to develop their strengths at all times," said the French strategist.

Mr. Philippe Troussier was born on March 21, 1955 in Paris, France. Before becoming the U19 coach, he was the Technical Director of the PVF Youth Football Training Center for more than a year. In August 2018, he went to Nghe An to work with the leaders of Nghe An Newspaper and relevant agencies to discuss the implementation of a plan to support the development of grassroots and professional football.

Last June, he was also present in Vinh City to attend the Youth - Children Football Tournament, Nghe An Newspaper Cup.

"U22 Vietnam just played with U22 China, and I saw the desire and effort in each individual. That is what I want to aim for U19 Vietnam. Of course, many other factors affect the team's performance. U19 Vietnam will have to work together towards future goals," Coach Troussier added.

Expressing his wish that his team would have the same spirit and playing style as the teams that Coach Park is leading, the French coach also admitted: "As the coach of U19 Vietnam, I consider myself as an assistant to Mr. Park. I hope the team can achieve the same achievements as U23 Vietnam or his national team."

"I consider leading the U19 Vietnam team an honor and responsibility. During more than a year working in Vietnam, I have many connections and relationships with football teams as well as youth training centers. That will help a lot in the working process," Mr. Troussier added.

At the announcement, VFF General Secretary Le Hoai Anh said PVF supported Mr. Troussier to lead the Vietnam U19 team. The French coach is currently the Technical Director of this center. During his time working at VFF, Mr. Troussier received allowances according to the current regime.

In the upcoming U19 Asian qualifiers, the U19 Vietnam team is the host of Group J, along with opponents Mongolia, Guam and Japan. According to the regulations, the 11 group winners and the 5 best second-placed teams (including the host) will qualify for the final round held in Japan in 2020.
