The Russian Foreign Ministry said on September 24 that the United States had refused to issue visas to some members of the Russian delegation to the United Nations General Assembly. Moscow criticized the move as a violation of Washington's international commitments.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said: "A number of members of the Russian delegation did not receive US visas to attend the UN General Assembly. This is outrageous evidence of the US's failure to respect the sovereignty of UN member states and to fulfill its commitments as a host country to the organization."

Ms. Zakharova said that the US side cited the technical nature of the issue, the visa issuance period..., but in reality that was not true.

The visa application was submitted on time as set by the US side. She said the issue would be discussed at a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his US counterpart Mike Pompeo in New York.

Previously, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council (Senate) of Russia, Constantin Cosachev, announced that a number of Federation Council members, including himself, did not receive visas and could not attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly./.
