According to information from Ms. Thu Hang - the wife of People's Artist The Anh, the male artist passed away at 5:30 am on September 29 due to a heart attack, at the age of 81.

According to Ms. Thu Hang, for the past 4 months, People's Artist The Anh had to be hospitalized due to a stroke and this morning he suffered a heart attack. Despite the best efforts of doctors and his family to save him, due to his old age and poor health, he did not survive.

People's Artist The Anh left a deep impression with the role of Lieutenant Phuong in the movie "Noi Gio".

People's Artist The Anh was born in 1938 in Tu Liem, Hanoi. He was the third child in a well-off family, his mother was a merchant, his father was an excellent student.

After graduating from high school, he worked at the Military High School for 2 years. In 1961, he was admitted to the Mathematics Department of Hanoi Pedagogical University. After only 4 months of studying, he enrolled in and was accepted into the acting class of the School of Dramatic Arts.

He studied in the same class with artists: Ngoc Hien, Tran Tien, Cao Khuong, Doan Dung, Trong Khoi, Thanh Tu, My Dung... Graduated with honors from the first regular stage actor course in 1964 with the role of an American officer surrounded in a bunker in the play "Dem Den" (in the trilogy of short plays "Nua dat nuoc trong dem" by author Ngo Y Linh), The Anh went to work at the Central Drama Troupe.

In 1964, when cinematographer Nguyen Dang Bay and director Huy Thanh were looking for a new actor to play Lieutenant Phuong in the movie “Noi Gio” (based on the script of the same name by Dao Hong Cam), The Anh was the 13th person to audition and was chosen. In this very first role, he made his mark in his acting career by successfully portraying the role of a young Lieutenant.

Another role that people often mention when talking about Thế Anh is the student Ba Duy in the movie “First Love”. When taking on this role, the male artist was 40 years old, but with his talent, age could not be a problem for him. The 40-year-old man completely convinced the audience when he transformed into a weak, frail student in his twenties, not strong enough to win back his lover from the hands of a foreign man.

Artist The Anh is considered a master in stage and film acting.

“First Love” won many domestic and international awards and brought The Anh the Best Actor award at the 5th Vietnam Film Festival in 1980.

Thanks to his elegance and depth in acting, he transformed into many types of characters, both negative and positive, from officers to soldiers, doctors, engineers, teachers, sailors... In total, he acted in more than 60 films and television series from both the North and the South (after 1975), making him one of the veteran actors of Vietnamese cinema.

After 1975, he returned to Ho Chi Minh City to start a career. During the 1980s and 1990s, People's Artist The Anh continued his acting career. In the 2000s, he continued to participate in a number of TV series such as:Transition, Love Slope, Wild Sunflower, Sorry Love, The Cuckoo's Call at Night...and some films such as the role of French officer Ponchon inThe student of the old Gia Dinh land(Director Huy Thanh). Recently, he returned to the theater stage with the villainous role of Tran Luan in The Executioner (Director Khanh Hoang).

People's Artist The Anh attended the 2019 Kite Awards ceremony in April in Ho Chi Minh City.

His wife, Thu Hang, is also an actress. He named his two sons The Phuong and The Duy to commemorate his two most successful roles.

In 1984, he received the title of Meritorious Artist. In 2001, he was awarded the title of People's Artist. In 2003, at the age of 65, the artist appeared in the TV seriesSteep loveand then stopped acting until now. The Anh finds joy in old age in writing books and researching movies.
