Five people arrested for 'poisoning' pine forest with herbicide.
Five suspects, aged 27-39, killed 1,159 pine trees by drilling holes in them and pouring herbicide into the trunks.
On October 29th, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duc Thuy, Head of the Dak Song District Police (Dak Nong Province), stated that the agency had temporarily detained Huynh Binh, Nguyen Dinh Than, Phan Cong Dung, Le Manh Hung, and Phan Van Dong (all residing in Nam N'jang commune, Dak Song district) for investigation into the crime of ""Deforestation."

In July, with the aim of seizing land, this group went to sub-area 1664 of the National Highway 14 landscape protection forest in Nâm N'jang commune, drilled holes in pine tree trunks, and poured herbicide, killing a total of 487 30-year-old pine trees.
In addition, 672 pine trees in sub-area 1699 of the National Highway 14 landscape protection forest in Truong Xuan commune were also poisoned by the suspects using similar methods.
In addition, in Dak G'long district this year, there have been 14 cases of pine forest destruction, with more than 2,100 trees being drilled into and treated with chemicals.
