(Baonghean.vn) - The lighthouse guiding ships in and out of the Cua Lo seaport has been broken for 2 years now but has not been repaired, greatly affecting the entry and exit of ships in this area.

This lighthouse in the Con Tha area is responsible for lighting up at night or during heavy fog to help fishermen determine fishing grounds and for cargo ships entering and leaving Cua Lo port to know dangerous areas to avoid. However, storm No. 2 in 2017 caused the lighthouse to collapse. Photo: Quang An
The fracture (circled in red) can be easily seen with the naked eye. Despite its important role, the lighthouse has not been installed or rebuilt for more than 2 years. Mr. Dau The Anh - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nghi Thuy Ward (Cua Lo Town) said that he did not know exactly when the lighthouse was built, but it had been on duty for decades. Since the lighthouse collapsed, in the past 2 years, there have been frequent incidents of ships entering and leaving the reef around the lighthouse, causing property damage to the people. Especially in 2017, a coal ship entering Cua Lo port ran aground on the reef for many days. Photo: Quang An
According to the reporter's observation, around the area where the lighthouse collapsed, there were many jagged reefs. If it was during the day, the boat could have been steered into the dock, but if it was at night, the possibility of collision was very high. Photo: Quang An
Fishermen in Nghi Thuy ward also reported: Over the past 2 years, fishermen in Cua Lo town, although familiar with the waterway, have had to be extremely careful when passing through here, but boats from other districts and neighboring provinces entering Cua Lo Port at night and in fog have a very high rate of colliding with the rocks. Mr. Vo Van Ly - Chairman of Nghi Thuy Ward People's Committee said: In public meetings and meetings with voters, the issue of this broken lighthouse is always "hot", because it directly affects the travel and offshore activities of fishing boats. The locality has made many recommendations but has not been resolved. Photo: Quang An
To avoid collisions with the reef while the lighthouse is not yet repaired, the authorities have installed a danger buoy with solar panels right next to the broken lighthouse. However, this is only a temporary solution because the buoy can be swept away from its location when there are big waves and strong winds. Moreover, the height of the buoy is lower than the lighthouse and the light emitted is weak. Therefore, the buoy cannot replace the function of the lighthouse. Photo: Quang An
