Improving the effectiveness of blood transfusion safety work in Nghe An
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 28, Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center in collaboration with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion organized a workshop on "Blood transfusion safety and communication on thalassemia".
Attending the workshop were: Doctor CKII Pham Tuan Duong - Deputy Director of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Director of the National Blood Center; Dr. Dau Huy Hoan - Deputy Director of Nghe An Department of Health; Mr. Pham Xuan Thach - Vice President of Nghe An Red Cross Society; Doctor CKII. Nguyen Quang Vinh - Director of Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center and many leaders of the units.
This workshop was attended by more than 200 delegates from the Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee - Red Cross Associations of districts, cities and towns; Blood Donation Clubs of units, schools... Leaders and specialists of hospitals with blood transfusion activities in Nghe An and Northern Ha Tinh.

According to the report at the conference, along with the development of the medical sector, the province's blood transfusion safety work has been gradually improved. Currently, the center has applied NAT (Nucleotid Acid Testing) technology to blood screening, ensuring that 100 units of blood/blood products are tested with high technology before being transfused to patients; striving to keep up with the development of Hematology and Blood Transfusion across the country.

Nghe An Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center has built a standard blood bank, supplying to hospitals in Nghe An province and partly to Ha Tinh. The amount of blood received by the center is increasing, in 2018 and 2019, it received nearly 35,000 units of blood/year; produced and supplied nearly 60,000 units of blood/blood products; The organization of voluntary blood donation and care for blood donors are improved, complying with State regulations.

Speaking at the workshop, Doctor CKII Pham Tuan Duong - Director of the National Blood Center emphasized the content of State management in blood transfusion activities, requiring hospitals and centers to comply with Circular 26/2013/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health; paying special attention to screening tests in emergency blood donation - this is very difficult when there is no blood reserve, especially in district hospitals far from the blood transfusion center; at the same time, sharing some of the Institute's experiences in regulating blood sources during sensitive times (summer and Tet) and some development orientations for the Hematology and Blood Transfusion field in Nghe An.

Dr. Dau Huy Hoan - Deputy Director of Nghe An Department of Health hopes that as the leading specialist in Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion will continue to pay attention and support Nghe An Provincial Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center to develop expertise, specialization, and develop a standard blood bank; towards becoming a center of the North Central region and becoming a satellite unit of the Institute.
The Deputy Director of the Department of Health also praised the results of voluntary blood donation activities in parallel with the work of ensuring blood transfusion safety in the province in the past time, and at the same time hoped that the Center for Hematology and Blood Transfusion would continue to promote the achieved results, develop expertise, build a standard blood bank; promote the development of expertise in hematology and blood disease examination and treatment; strengthen the direction of lower levels. At the same time, medical examination and treatment facilities with blood transfusion in the whole sector need to continue to coordinate well with the Center for Hematology and Blood Transfusion in the province in mobilizing and receiving blood; gradually deploy blood and plasma storage at the hospital; to promptly provide emergency care and treat patients, reasonably and safely.

Within the framework of the workshop, medical staff were also informed and raised awareness about symptoms, complications, treatment principles and methods of preventing congenital hemolytic disease (Thalassemia). Currently, Nghe An is a locality with a high rate of people carrying the disease gene, so it is necessary to raise awareness of disease prevention, early diagnosis for timely detection and treatment.
