(Baonghean.vn) - Reviewing the report on environmental protection work in the province in 2019 presented at the 12th session, the Provincial People's Council, the Economic - Social Committee of the Provincial People's Council requested the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to clarify the plan to remedy 22 facilities causing environmental pollution and serious environmental pollution that have not been remedied.

Nearly 5 billion VND fined for environmental violations
In 2019, state management of environmental protection continued to receive attention from all levels and sectors, implementing many solutions; linking propaganda and dissemination of laws with strengthening inspection, examination, control and handling of environmental pollution.
During the year, departments and branches organized 29 inspection teams for 65 establishments and drew up records of administrative violations of nearly 1 billion VND. At the district level, they organized inspections of 258 establishments and imposed administrative violations on 29 establishments with a total amount of nearly 170 million VND.
The provincial police have inspected, detected and arrested 1,030 cases, 1,095 criminals and violators of environmental laws, including causing pollution, violating hazardous waste, illegal mining; and handled administrative violations with nearly 3.8 billion VND.

Environmental monitoring has been increased in frequency, from 4 to 6 times/year at 62 surface water monitoring points; 14 coastal seawater monitoring points; 7 sediment monitoring points; 36 air and noise monitoring points.
During the year, the province also approved environmental impact assessment reports for 33 investment projects; environmental improvement and restoration plans for 4 projects; issued 28 hazardous waste source owner registration books; and 5 oil spill response plan confirmations.

22 polluted and seriously polluted facilities have not been remediated
Besides the changes, environmental protection work still has many potential risks. That is, in the province there are still 14 establishments causing serious environmental pollution and 8 establishments causing environmental pollution.
On the other hand, according to regulations, facilities with large discharge sources must install automatic monitoring systems (including wastewater and exhaust gas); however, 4/20 facilities have not yet installed them.
In addition, the whole province has 3/7 industrial parks that have not invested in centralized wastewater treatment systems; 14/22 industrial clusters are in operation but have not invested in wastewater treatment systems and out of 8 clusters that have invested, 7 clusters only have biological pond systems but do not have centralized treatment systems. Based on the above situation, chairing the inspection, Mr. Cao Tien Trung - Deputy Head of the Economic - Budget Committee of the Provincial People's Council requested the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to have a specific plan and roadmap to overcome shortcomings and problems in environmental protection work, contributing to improving the environment in the province and improving the quality of life of the people.
Doing a good job of environmental protection also contributes to reducing voters' petitions and feedback related to the environment, because currently the proportion of voters' petitions related to the environment is the main part of the summary of voters' opinions of the Provincial People's Council through the sessions.
