Car driver transporting smuggled cigarettes hit by police bullet
Duong Van Men, 29 years old, driving a car with a fake license plate carrying 15,000 packs of smuggled foreign cigarettes was chased by the police and was shot and killed.
On December 10, Ho Chi Minh City Police took statements from many people to investigate the case of the Binh Chanh District Police working group chasing a car carrying smuggled cigarettes that caused the death of driver Men.

According to the initial investigation, at more than 8:00 p.m. on December 6, a working group of Binh Chanh District Police patrolled the area of Le Minh Xuan Commune and discovered two cars suspected of carrying contraband goods coming from Long An. The police signaled the car to stop for inspection, and a car pulled over, carrying more than 11,000 packs of cigarettes of unknown origin and without invoices or documents.
The remaining 7-seater with HCMC license plate, driven by Men, sped away. Being chased by the police, the driver caused an accident with 2 women on motorbikes, dragging the victims’ vehicle for a long distance. The car continued to flee, allegedly forcing the police vehicle to repeatedly press the police vehicle, forcing the task force to fire several warning shots into the air.

The chase continued for another 2 km, reaching Vo Van Van Street, Vinh Loc B Commune, Binh Chanh District, the car swerved and crashed into a pile of rocks on the side of the road. The police got out to check and found Men injured and slumped over the steering wheel, so they took him to the emergency room. However, he died from a gunshot wound. There were 15,000 packs of foreign cigarettes in the car.
