(Baonghean.vn) - This year's winter came later than usual, but the cold was intense and continuous, so in many highland and border communes, the temperature dropped below 12 degrees Celsius, even down to 5 - 8 degrees Celsius in the early morning and at night. In order to protect livestock, localities have taken many measures to prevent hunger and cold...

At 4:30 p.m., the herd of 15 buffaloes and cows of Mr. Luong Van Nui's family in Cua Rao 1 village, Xa Luong commune, Tuong Duong district was brought into the barn to warm up. Mr. Nui said: During this time, the temperature in the early morning and late afternoon often drops to 12-8 degrees Celsius.0C, so his family followed the instructions of the veterinary staff. That is, to feed the animals with enough nutrients, only graze when the sun is up, in the morning and afternoon, put the animals in the barn, light a fire to warm them; comply with keeping the barn clean and dry. In addition, it is necessary to stock up on dry food, plant more grass from the beginning of the season, and limit letting the animals eat outside to avoid cold and frostbite.

In Tam Quang commune, there are currently about 800 households raising livestock, with over 4,000 animals, making it one of the leading localities in caring for and developing livestock in Tuong Duong district. Thanks to the commune's propaganda from the beginning of the season, people have planted 48 hectares of grass and stocked straw and corn to ensure food for cattle; regularly herd the herd together in groups to make fires to keep warm. At the same time, implement the correct vaccination schedule for livestock, minimizing the disease in livestock.

Learning from previous years, many communes had buffaloes and cows die due to hunger, cold, foot and mouth disease, and septicemia; This year, Tuong Duong district has deployed many solutions to the villages and hamlets for the people. Accordingly, the communes are directed to propagate to the people; if the temperature drops below 120C, buffaloes and cows should not be released early and livestock should not be allowed to plow during the cold season. Since the beginning of the year, the district has also mobilized people to plant more than 100 hectares of various types of grass, stock up on dry straw and provide corn seeds to households producing on 49.4 hectares of 2-rice land to increase the source of food for livestock.

In Khe Ran village, Bong Khe commune, Con Cuong, there are nearly 500 buffaloes and cows; these days, people have been keeping buffaloes and cows in windproof barns and providing them with adequate food and water. According to Mr. Lo Xuan Noi in Khe Ran village, Bong Khe commune: “In the past, regardless of rain or cold, buffaloes and cows were let loose to graze on the mountains, so they often got cold, hungry, and in some cases died. Thanks to propaganda officers, families have proactively kept buffaloes and cows in cages, sheltered them from the wind during severe cold spells, and given them adequate nutrition to ensure their growth.”

In the mountainous border commune of Mon Son, to proactively cope with the weather and protect the herd of nearly 2,000 buffaloes and cows in the commune, from the beginning of winter, the commune has mobilized people to bring buffaloes and cows home, keep them in barns, and not let them roam freely in the forest; guide people to reinforce and cover their farms; proactively provide food sources and regularly vaccinate buffaloes and cows.

According to statistics, Con Cuong district currently has a total herd of more than 16 thousand buffaloes; 14,779 cows; nearly 29 thousand pigs; and 400 thousand poultry. In addition to preventing cold for livestock, the district continues to recommend people to raise livestock in a concentrated manner combined with semi-grazing and fattening. Strengthen slaughter control, do a good job of vaccination and veterinary hygiene to prevent epidemics from occurring.

This year, the cold weather is forecast to be severe and prolonged. Therefore, the participation of departments, branches, local authorities and especially the awareness of people in protecting livestock is very necessary. Only then can livestock limit damage to livestock and poultry in the cold winter./.
