On the morning of December 25, local authorities and the district veterinary agency destroyed 163 breeding pigs at the pig farm of Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan in Hamlet 9, Dien Lien Commune (Dien Chau).

Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau, an officer in charge of land and agriculture in Dien Lien commune, said: Ms. Nguyen Thi Toan's family's pig farm has just re-herded 200 pigs. On December 22, some pigs showed signs of illness and stopped eating, so the family reported it to the local authorities. On the morning of December 23, the veterinary agency took samples for testing, and the results showed that the samples tested positive for African swine fever. Immediately after that, the district veterinary agency destroyed 37 pigs showing signs of illness, while 63 healthy pigs continued to be monitored.

However, by the morning of December 25, most of the pigs showed signs of illness, so the commune authorities and the Veterinary Department proceeded to destroy all the remaining pigs. The total weight of the 200 pigs was 4,112 kg.

Currently, the pig farm owner is applying measures to prevent and control African swine fever right in the pig farm area, by spraying disinfectants and sprinkling lime powder. All 200 pigs are also destroyed right in the farm area.

Dien Lien commune had its first outbreak on September 7 and was declared free of the disease on November 7. After destroying the pig farm, there were 96 pigs left in the commune. Thus, Dien Chau district had to declare African swine fever in Dien Lien commune.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Bon - Head of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Dien Chau district said: After a period of efforts to control African swine fever, the epidemic situation has decreased sharply, from 39 communes to 3 communes. However, on December 24, in the district, there were 2 communes with African swine fever outbreaks, Dien Lien and Dien Van.

Thus, as of December 25, in Dien Chau district, there are still 5 communes that have not passed 30 days of the epidemic: Dien Lien, Dien Van, Dien Kim, Dien Phu and Dien An. "Currently, the district's Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station has assigned staff to stay close to the area to monitor the disease situation in the pig herd. If there is a phenomenon of sick pigs, it will be handled immediately" - Mr. Nguyen Trong Bon shared.
