Investigation into the case of people cutting down more than 220 Tet apricot trees at night
More than 200 apricot trees worth hundreds of millions of VND belonging to a local resident preparing for Tet were chopped down by thieves at night.
On the afternoon of December 31, Ben Cat Town Police, Binh Duong Province coordinated with relevant agencies to measure, examine the scene, and investigate the destruction of more than 220 apricot trees of people in An Tay Commune, Ben Cat Town.
Accordingly, at around 7am the same day, Mr. Bui Duc Dung (40 years old), the owner of the apricot garden, visited the garden and was surprised to discover many apricot branches had been cut off under the apricot tree.

At first, Mr. Dung thought that the gardener had trimmed the branches. However, when he went deeper into the garden, he saw many apricot trees with the tops cut off or cut close to the base. Panicked, Mr. Dung called the gardener to ask and was confirmed that it was not because of pruning.
Through initial inspection, more than 220 apricot trees were cut down, of which 80 were taken care of by local people, the rest were from gardens planted for more than 5 years in preparation for Tet sale.

Initial damage estimates for Mr. Dung's family are over 700 million VND.
