(Baonghean.vn) - "When I saw a girl throw herself into the Dinh River, I forgot all about the cold weather and only thought that I knew how to swim and what I needed to do was quickly save the person," teacher Phan Hieu Nghia shared.

Regarding the female student incidentTruong Thi Yen Nh. (10th grade student at Quy Hop 2 High School) jumped off Dinh Bridge to commit suicide. The person who jumped into the river to save her was her teacher.Phan Hieu Nghia(Born in 1992), teacher at Tam Ho Secondary Schoolp,Quy Hop

At around 8:30 a.m. on January 10, Mr. Nghia was on his way to Nghia Xuan commune (Quy Hop) to get a mockup for the school. When he had passed Dinh bridge for 20-30 meters, he saw a girl standing on the bridge railing, covering her face and crying.

Suspecting that his sister intended to commit suicide, the teacher quickly stopped the car, but suddenly she threw herself into the river. Immediately, the teacher ran to the foot of the bridge, took off his jacket, jumped into the river, swam to the victim's location 30-40m away, shouted for everyone to find a pole and brought the victim to shore.

With the help of the people around, when Mr. Nghia was able to bring the victim to shore, his body was already numb from the cold. However, Mr. Nghia still tried to give first aid to the victim before transferring him to the clinic.

Teacher Nghia said that when he saw his sister's hands struggling in the water, he only had time to take off his coat and shoes, and jumped into the river alone to try to approach and save her. When he reached the victim, she was so scared that she tried to hold on, causing both of them to drift further away.

“I think in that situation, anyone who knows how to swim and has the skills to save a drowning person would do the same. In the process of rescuing the girl, I could not have done it alone, but I also had the active support of passersby,” said teacher Phan Hieu Nghia.

Ms. Mai Thi Hanh - Principal of Tam Hop Secondary School commented: Mr. Nghia graduated and worked at the town's Secondary School in 2014, and in 2016 he transferred to Tam Hop Secondary School. After his beautiful act of saving a student who jumped into the Dinh River, Mr. Nghia still went to school to work as usual.
