(Baonghean.vn) - After being told by a friend that marrying a Chinese man would give her a good life and a loving husband, Ms. La Thi Th. immediately agreed. After that, Ms. Th. was sold by her friend for 240 million VND.
Nghe An Provincial People's Court has just opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant La Thi Hien (born 1994, residing in Chau Khe commune, Con Cuong district) for the crime of "Human trafficking".
According to the indictment, around November 2016, Hien, who was living in China, contacted Ms. La Thi Th. (born in 1992, residing in Chau Khe commune) via social media. Th. complained about her miserable life and lack of money to raise her children. Hearing this, Hien immediately invited Th. to go to China to get married, where she would have a better life and a loving husband.
After listening to Hien's invitation, Th. asked her to help find a good man to go to China to get married. Then, Hien told Th. to take a bus to Mong Cai (Quang Ninh) where someone would pick her up and take her there. Because Th. had no money, Hien asked her relatives to lend her 1 million VND for travel expenses.

When Th. arrived in Mong Cai, Hien hired a woman from China to come to Vietnam to take Th. for 2,000 yuan. Then, Hien and her Chinese husband took Th. home. After 15 days, Hien sold Th. to a local man for 70,000 yuan (equivalent to 240 million VND). Then, Hien gave Thanh 30,000 yuan and pocketed the rest.
In May 2018, La Thi Hien returned to her hometown. At the end of June 2019, La Thi Th. returned to Vietnam. On July 25, 2019, Th. went to the Con Cuong District Police to file a complaint against Hien for human trafficking.
At the trial, the defendant admitted all the crimes. Defendant Hien said that Th. asked him to take him to China, so he helped him. Attending the trial, the victim also asked for a reduced sentence for the defendant.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s human trafficking was dangerous to society. However, in this case, the victim was also partly at fault. Therefore, La Thi Hien was sentenced to 5 years in prison.
