Since August 2019, through professional work, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department - Nghe An Provincial Police discovered a drug trafficking ring with a large quantity of drugs from Laos to Vietnam, specifically in the border area of Thanh Chuong district (Nghe An), led by Laotian subjects equipped with hot weapons.

In late 2019, many experienced detectives from the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department were sent to Thanh Chuong district to grasp the situation and closely monitor all information and activities of drug dealers.

According to information provided by reconnaissance teams, on the afternoon of January 16, 2020, there will be a number of Lao people crossing the forest to enter Nghe An to sell drugs. However, they were very vigilant, "lying still" to listen to the situation. At 8:00 p.m. on January 16, 2020, at Km 332, Ho Chi Minh trail, in Thanh Thuy commune, Thanh Chuong district, a subject appeared carrying a backpack suspected of containing drugs. The task force, including the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department in coordination with Thanh Chuong District Police and Thanh Thuy Border Guard Station, arrested them red-handed.

The subject was identified as Chung Va, born in 1996, residing in Kham Cot district, Bolikhamxay province, Laos. The police force seized the entire amount of drugs that Chung Va was carrying, including: 20 heroin cakes, 12 kg of crystal meth.

During the arrest, a group of suspects who acted as lookouts and were armed with firearms fiercely fought back to free their accomplices, but the forces of Nghe An Police and Border Guards joined forces to fight the case safely.

Expanding the investigation, the Task Force arrested another suspect, Thao Ho Vu, born in 1994, residing in Lac Xao district, Bolikhamxay province, Laos, while he was hiding in the forest.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Que Thai - Deputy Head of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department - Nghe An Provincial Police said: Subject Chung Va was hired by the masterminds in Laos to transport drugs; subject Thao Ho Vu was tasked with brokering buyers and would receive money after the drug transaction was successful.

In this ring, the subjects do not travel together, the tasks of each subject are assigned very strictly by the "drug lords" in Laos. There are groups of lookouts, brokers, guides and transporters. This has caused a lot of difficulties for the authorities in the process of monitoring and arresting.
